Microsoft revealed that the upcoming version of Windows will have a feature called as ‘Continuum’. Microsoft adapts the Windows user experience based on whether you are using your 2-in-1 device in tablet or keyboard/mouse mode. When you have keyboard connected to your device, apps will be opened in Windowed mode, when you disconnect keyboard from your device, Windows will ask you whether to switch modes, if you press yes, you will be presented with the new Task view with big touch targets. When you press Start Menu, you will be presented with a new Start screen which is a hybrid of the Start Screen and Start Menu.

In the latest Windows 10 Build 9879, Microsoft has included few continuum feature elements. You can enable it by following the below steps. Enabling this registry hack may corrupt your Start experience. So, don’t try this on your everyday machines.

  • Launch the Registry Editor (hit the Windows key and R, type regedit, and then press Enter) and then navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionImmersiveShellLauncher
  • Click Edit > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it UseExperience.
  • Double-click the newly create item and set the value to 1.
  • Click OK, close the Registry Editor and then restart your computer — or just restart Explorer
