Microsoft has announced an upcoming update for Minecraft Education, which is scheduled for release in June 2024.

Minecraft Education is a modified version of the famous sandbox game Minecraft, created specifically for educational use. Microsoft developed it, and it was first introduced in 2016. This version is designed to cater to classrooms and educational institutions. Unlike the original Minecraft, which focuses mainly on creative exploration and building, Minecraft Education incorporates features and resources customized to support various learning objectives across different subjects.

It offers lesson plans, activities, and challenges aligned with subjects like STEM, history, language arts, and coding. Students can work together to build, explore, and solve problems within the Minecraft world, fostering teamwork and communication skills.

The update will integrate with OneDrive, allowing users to easily back up and access their Minecraft worlds from any device. This feature is currently available in the preview version of Minecraft Education. It will allow users to test new applications alongside the main Minecraft Education application. This may provide early access to upcoming features and resources.

The update will include select features from the upcoming Minecraft 1.21 update, expected for broader release sometime in 2024. Confirmed features include “Trial Chambers,” procedurally generated underground structures, and a new mob called the “Breeze.”

This update, identified under Feature ID 381449, was added to the roadmap on February 7, 2024. Under the General Availability release phase, it is scheduled for a worldwide rollout across various platforms, including Mac, Android, iOS, and Desktop. The rollout is slated to commence in June 2024.

This update may improve collaboration and accessibility for Minecraft Education users, both educators and students. Integrating OneDrive storage could facilitate the sharing and preservation of creative projects.
