Microsoft's investment in Poland

Microsoft’s laundry list of AI investments in countries continues as the Redmond tech giant announced a PLN 2.8 billion investment in Poland, which approximately adds up to $694.6 million.

The new investment will expand the country’s cloud and AI infrastructure, security, and digital skills development by next year. As a part of that, it will also help grow existing data center campuses and introduce more Azure services to meet increasing demand.

“This is an investment in our future, our security, our youth, our startups, and our scholars,” said Donald Tusk, Prime Minister of Poland.

As for the country’s cybersecurity system, Microsoft is teaming up with the Polish National Defense to work on improving national security, using AI and cloud technology to help protect against cyber threats.

The Redmond company is also focusing on training Poland’s workforce. By 2025, the company plans to help one million Polish workers gain skills in digital areas such as AI and cybersecurity. Microsoft boss Brad Smith added, “We are committed to helping to protect its cybersecurity and cyber resilience.”

This is part of Microsoft’s recent investments in artificial intelligence across various countries. In April 2024, Microsoft invested $1.5 billion in Abu Dhabi’s G42 to accelerate AI development and global expansion.

In May 2024, the company also announced a $3.3 billion investment in Wisconsin to spur artificial intelligence innovation and economic growth. Then, also in 2024, it purchased 485,000 Nvidia GPUs to power its AI infrastructure.
