Microsoft today announced Sports Performance Platform, a Microsoft Garage project that will help athletes and sports team make better decisions based on the data. Sports Performance Platform is built on Power BI, Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Surface devices. Sports Performance Platform’s predictive outcome modeling and analytics capabilities can be used to track and improve player performance. Seattle Reign FC, Real Sociedad, Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Cricket Australia are some of the sport teams that are already using this platform.
Sports Performance Platform enables sports scientists to understand team and player data and derive actionable insights that can enhance performance on the field. For example, the platform empowers sports scientists to use machine-learning and predictive modeling to uncover insights around athlete readiness, injury prevention, practice design and management, longitudinal player reports, and talent watch.
The Seattle Reign FC uses GPS data from Catapult and the Fit For 90 monitoring platform to track data about factors such as a player’s heart rate, speed, acceleration and deceleration. Microsoft’s Sports Performance Platform aggregates these data into one view allowing coaches to make better decisions.
Coaches can create an aggregate view of insights on an athlete’s performance, recovery and readiness, enabling them to run predictive modeling for injury prevention, make clutch-time decisions on a player’s game-day availability and design practice regimens that keep each athlete playing at the optimum level.
Microsoft is working with Akvelon, Fair Play and POP to help deploy and customize Sports Performance Platform for various teams. If you are interested in trying this program for your sports team, you can sign-up here. Learn more about this program here.
