Microsoft is deprecating the old Windows Volume Mixer

The venerable Windows Volume Mixer may be on its way out, if the latest 19H1 build of Windows 10 is any indication.

In Windows 10 19H1 Build 18272, clicking on the volume mixer selection in the right-click menu of the taskbar speaker icon will now open the App Volume Device Preferences page (above) in Settings, rather than the old Volume Mixer app.

The old Volume Mixer is still accessible for now,  via the Control Panel or by searching for SndVol.exe in Cortana.

19H1 is the next major version of Windows 10 and is expected to hit Windows 10 computers in the first half of 2019, likely around April next year, and is expected to include improvements to the Windows shell.
