Because of the buzz around Microsoft Teams, many thought Microsoft is moving away from their enterprise social network solution Yammer. Today at Ignite, Microsoft announced several new updates for Yammer.

First, Microsoft is improving the integration between SharePoint and Yammer. Today they are announcing a new mobile-ready web-part for integrating Yammer conversations into SharePoint sites. This integration will be available in the coming month. They are also improving the preview and editing experience of SharePoint documents within Yammer, as well as building out default SharePoint file storage and OneNote services for Office 365-connected Yammer groups. Second, Yammer users can now see presence, as well as launch voice and video calls without leaving Yammer.

Third, Microsoft is announcing new Yammer desktop apps for Windows and Mac. The desktop apps comes with the full functionality of Yammer along with streamlined log in and SSO support. And it supports native OS capabilities such as notifications, shortcuts, and launch on startup.
