Microsoft announces new inking capabilities in Office apps

Along with the announcement about the new improved Surface Pen, Microsoft today revealed new inking features in coming to Office apps. The new Surface Pen comes with support for 4,096 pressure points and new tilt functionality that adjusts the thickness and texture of your ink granularly, based on the angle of your pen. Microsoft’s Office apps including Word, Excel and PowerPoint will support Surface Pen’s increased pressure sensitivity, low-latency and tilt improvements for inking. Office 365 subscribers with the new Surface Pro device and Surface Pen can enjoy this improvement.

Microsoft is also introducing new pencil texture and ink effects like rainbow, galaxy, lava, ocean, gold, silver and more that will help consumers express their creativity in new ways. This feature will be coming to Office apps on Windows Desktop in June for Office Insiders Fast. Microsoft will release it to general consumers in the coming months. If you want to try these ink effects now, try it on OneNote for Windows 10 app.

Finally, Microsoft is announcing a new feature that will allow users to take their customizable gallery of their favorite pens, pencils and highlighters across apps and devices. Yes, all your custom pens will now roam with you wherever you go.

The new customizable and roaming pens gallery is coming to in Word, Excel and PowerPoint on Windows desktops in June. It will also be coming to OneNote for Windows 10 in June.
