Google has begun releasing a solution for the last issues with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast audio devices. Since 9 March 2025, users have encountered “untrusted device” issues, where they cannot cast content. The reason behind the problem appears to be an old security certificate.
If you have the same issue, keep your device online
The problem began when an intermediate security certificate, required for device authentication, expired on March 9. The expiration made the devices unrecognized and unable to function correctly.
Google acknowledged the problem and started deploying a fix. The company advises that users keep their devices online to obtain the update automatically over the next few days.

Others have found temporary fixes, such as changing device date settings before certificate expiration. However, these methods are not always effective and are known to interfere with other programs. If you’ve tried any of the above steps and haven’t managed to fix your Chromecast, it’s best to wait for the official fix from Google.
