Windows 11 now supports private DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH), here's how to enable it

Fix Windows errors with Fortect:
Fortect can repair common computer errors by scanning your entire system for damaged or missing OS files and replacing them with the original, working versions. Optimize your PC in 3 simple steps:

  1. Download and Install Fortect on your PC
  2. Use the PC Scan feature to look up any Windows issues (including drivers)
  3. Right-click on Repair, and fix it within a few minutes.

Besides that, it helps you clean up junk files, fix stability problems, and get rid of annoying programs and malware traces.

DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) closes the last plaintext hole when communicating on the internet – that being when you request the IP number of a server you want to communicate with. Without DoH your DNS provider (usually your ISP) always know which websites you are connecting to.

Some browsers already support DoH, and now Windows 11 features native support for the technology.

Enabling it is not complicated.

How to set up DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) on Windows 11

  1. Navigate to Settings> Network & Internet > Ethernet and WIFI
  2. Click Edit on the DNS Server Assignment item.
  3. Switch the setting from Automatic (DCHP) to Manual
  4. Toggle the IP4 button.
  5. In the resulting form, enter 8.8.8.8 in the Preferred DNS field and select Encrypt- only (DNS over HTTPS).
  6. In the Alternate DNS field,ย  enter 1.1.1.1 in the Preferred DNS field and select Encrypt- only (DNS over HTTPS).
  7. Click Save and your Network Settings should look like this.

Other DNS options include

  • Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 DNS servers
  • Google: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 DNS servers
  • Quad9: 9.9.9.9 and 149.112.112.112 DNS servers

Your DNS look-ups should now be encrypted, giving you an extra layer of privacy from your ISP.
