Early this week, Microsoft revealed the new Surface Slim Pen along with the Surface Pro X device. Unlike the existing Surface Pen, this new Surface Slim Pen features a new design with a thin, flat and easy-to-hold profile. Both Surface Pen and Surface Slim Pen support 4096 points of pressure. When the existing Surface Pen design is iconic and loved by millions of users, here’s why Microsoft created the new Slim Pen with all-new design:

  • What Microsoft found is that some people prefer the traditional pen form factor of Surface Pen. A different set of customers prefer writing / sketching / drawing with a drafting pencil form fact which is why we’ve built the Surface Slim Pen. A thin and light design based on a carpenter’s pencil for effortless writing.
  • With Surface Pro X, we’ve added a storage tray for Surface Slim Pen on the Surface Pro X Keyboard, so your pen is always charged and available for you to capture ideas whenever and wherever they strike.

The new Surface Slim Pen is compatible with the following devices:

Surface Book, Surface Book 2, Surface Studio 1st Gen, Surface Studio 2, Surface Laptop 1st Gen, Surface Laptop 2, Surface Laptop 3, Surface Go, Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, Surface Pro 5th Gen, Surface Pro 6, Surface Pro 7, and Surface 3.

You can pre-order the new Surface Slim Pen here from Microsoft.
