In an attempt to promote sustainability, Google has secured its first offshore wind power purchase agreement (PPA) in Taiwan. This move reflects its aim to solidify its commitment to renewable energy in the Asia Pacific region. The deal involves purchasing energy from the Fengmiao I offshore wind project, developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. This project, part of Taiwan’s Round 3.1 offshore wind auction, is set to become a major contributor to the region’s clean energy infrastructure.

The project is titled Fengmiao I and is expected to be operational by 2027. It is aimed to supply renewable energy to power Google’s data centers, cloud regions, and offices in Taiwan. While Google already has solar and geothermal energy footprints, this project will also add wind to its existing protfolio.
With this initiative, Google will move closer to its goal of running its operations on 24/7 carbon-free energy (CFE). As Taiwan ramps up its offshore wind sector, Google’s involvement could further inspire growth and innovation in this sector.
