Key notes

  • Google Chrome is testing a split screen feature to view two web pages in one window.
  • The feature is in early development, with an option to “split tab with active tab” when right-clicking.
  • Chrome is also working on new features like Gemini AI for pop-up ad removal and the removal of Compact Mode.
Google Chrome split screen

Want to try the split screen feature on Google Chrome? Well, we’ve got some good news.

The popular browser is currently testing the split screen feature, and with that, you can view two web pages at the same time in one window. Eagle-eyed folks @Leopeva64 spotted the change and shared it on X.

As you can see above, there’s an option to “split tab with active tab” option when you right-click on a tab on Google Chrome. The spotter says that the feature is still “in an early stage of development” so details about its release are still currently scarce.

Google Chrome does not have a split screen feature up to this testing. Normally, people would have to turn to alternatives like third-party extensions or just manually open two different Chrome windows on both sides.

Or, you can also use Windows Snap by pressing Windows + Left/Right Arrow to snap the Chrome window into one side.

And with that, Chrome is finally bringing the feature that Microsoft Edge and Opera users have been enjoying for quite some time. On Safari on macOS, you can also use “Split View” to work in two apps side-by-side by holding the pointer over the green button in the top-left corner and selecting “Tile Window.”

Still from Chrome-related news, Google has also been testing some more experiments in recent weeks.

The popular browser will soon use its Gemini AI to remove annoying pop-up ads with a new feature called “PermissionAI.” And, Google also said that it’s removing the Compact Mode from the browser’s experimental channel.
