Google has expanded its Deep Research tool to the Gemini mobile app, now available for both iOS and Android users. Previously, it was only available for Android users in early February 2025.

This AI-powered assistant, initially launched in December 2024 for web users, enables Gemini Advanced subscribers to generate detailed reports on complex topics swiftly.

This update places Google in direct competition with Microsoft’s Copilot, which features Think Deeper, a similar research tool that integrates deeply into Microsoft 365 applications.

Earlier this month, Google also updated its Gemini 2.0 AI models, including the new “Flash Thinking” feature, which improves reasoning capabilities by breaking down complex problems into smaller steps.

The update also introduces an agentic model that can interact with Google apps like YouTube and Search, alongside the experimental Gemini 2.0 Pro, which improves factual accuracy and performance in coding and mathematics.

Other than those, Google is launching the cost-effective 2.0 Flash-Lite model, providing better efficiency at a lower price.

Google also removed the Gemini 1.5 Flash and 1.5 Pro models from its app following the launch of Gemini 2.0 Flash, which is now the default for all users. While 2.0 Flash outperforms 1.5 Pro in multiple benchmarks, Gemini Advanced subscribers still have access to 1.5 Pro for Deep Research.

The company has recently been teasing future updates, including enhanced tools for video, image, and audio generation, such as priority access to MusicLM and Lyria.
