Long Zheng has been doing some detective work with Photoshop, and was able to confirm, even with the high quality renders of Nokia’s concept devices, that the screen ratio is very different from the 1.666 which is 800×480 or 1.5 which  is 480×320.

In fact the 1.777 ratio is exactly the same as Nokia’s infamous nHD 640×360 (also the same ratio as HD video), and would represent a departure for Windows Phone 7, but would be very familiar to Nokia, and obviously help keep cost down for the new OEM.

Of course the pictures are just renders, and it may be that the designer may itself be using an old model.  There has however been a suggestion that a new chassis will be announced at Mobile World Congress this week, so we will keep a close lookout for any news on this.

Update: WPCentral spoke to Microsoft, who has denied that any such move is on the cards, and says Nokia will use the same standard resolution as everyone else – crisis averted!
