Blizzard Entertainment held their 10th annual BlizzCon event over the weekend, and the company definitely had some big news to share. For those who aren’t familiar, BlizzCon is a celebration of Blizzard Entertainment’s game universes and the communities invested in those games, where the company holds gaming competitions, Q&A sessions, classes, and much, much more. On day 2 of the event this year, Blizzard announced that it will be bringing Diablo 3’s Season to consoles in 2017.

From a blog post on the developers website:

We’re bringing the fresh experience of starting over in Seasons that PC and Mac players have enjoyed to the PS4 and Xbox One! For those who aren’t familiar with them, Seasons offer the chance to earn a full six-piece class set for achieving certain goals, while also granting new pets, cosmetic items and more.

If that’s not enough, you’ll also be able to race against other players for the chance to earn a coveted spot on the Seasonal leaderboards. How far will your Season Journey extend? There’s only one way to find out! Keep an eye out for this feature starting next year.

Seasons are Diablo 3’s version of the Diablo 2 Ladders, and they have been available to Windows and Mac users since August 2014. When a season is active, players can make new characters and choose to make them Seasonal Heros during the creation. This way they will only be able to play with other Seasonal Characters for the duration of that season. Each Season is a fresh start, and players can not bring in any of their existing characters, items, points, gold, artisan levels, or anything else from their normal accounts. The idea is to put everyone on a level playing field.

Seasons on console will also include the Season Journey alongside all rewards and cosmetics. Console and Windows/Mac Seasons should align by Season 10.
