ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701 As if the console tradition of 30-60fps gameplay wasn’t already overshadowed by mobile technology with 144Hz displays, computer manufacturer ASUS is piling on with an all-new 300Hz laptop.
The ROG Zephyrus S GX701 is more than just a long-winded name. Hailed as the first ever 300Hz laptops ever: as far as we can see, it’s the first ever 300Hz display. However, we did find an online prototype for a 480Hz 540p monitor.
“Raising the refresh rate to 300Hz represents a 25 percent increase over the current standard for high-level esports tournaments,” Asus announced. “At that speed, the screen can draw 5X more frames than the 60Hz panels found on conventional laptops. Paired with a GPU that produces enough frames per second to keep up, the faster display makes gameplay silkier than ever before.”
The ROG Zephyrus S GX701 is paired with a solid set of technical specifications. On the GPU side, the system boasts a beefy GTX 2080 that turbos up to a whopping 1.23Ghz. It’s not going to give you those tasty 300 frames-per-second in every game, but those that already run at high frame rates should benefit. Other components have not been announced, but we should expect an i9 CPU.
In a video by Linus Tech Tips, see below, ASUS showed off the new technology and explained how it was created.
With the ROG brand pushing new display hardware into unforeseen heights – like with the awesome ROG Phones – we’ve been seeing some amazing advancements in portable displays. What the hell are they going to do next?!
