Asus NovaGo Windows 10 on ARM laptop may not arrive as soon as we thought

At Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit two Windows on ARM devices were announced, the HP Envy x2 and the Asus NovaGo.

Despite appearing ready, the HP Envy x2 is only shipping in Spring next year, but the impression Qualcomm and Microsoft gave was that the Asus NovaGo should be hitting shelves shortly.

We reported earlier that not all Connected PC features were ready, with some being targetted at Spring 2018, with Redstone 4, and suggested the HP Envy x2 may be waiting for then to launch.

It appears at least in some regions the Asus NovaGo will also be arriving around the same time or even later.

Engadget notes:

The HP Envy x2 will be available in spring next year, while no timeframe has been shared for the ASUS NovaGo yet.

Hexus reports:

From its email to HEXUS it looks like Asus will be selling many devices via mobile telecoms companies in addition to more traditional PC hardware outlets. The first machines will arrive on the shores of the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, France, Germany, mainland China, and Taiwan. For the UK we are looking at an “early spring” retail release.

Similarly, TechAdvisor notes:

An Asus representative told Tech Advisor to expect it in the ‘spring’ or ‘late Q1’.

While for many Microsoft’s Windows on ARM announcements have appeared to be very late in the year, especially to hit the holiday selling season, it appears they were still premature, and that Microsoft may be missing the seasonal boat and also some of the excitement around the launch of the new technology. The Snapdragon 835-powered laptops may also be overshadowed by the first Android devices powered by Snapdragon 845.

On the other hand, the experience should be better for Connected PCs after Redstone 4, and Microsoft is planning to sell these laptops as just another PC, and may simply want to slip them into the mainstream market rather than differentiate them.

It seems however that if you were planning to spend your Christmas bonus on a new Windows on ARM PC you may have some time to wait.
