As you may have figured out, I write a lot more words than the average person. I’ve tried out a few apps for writing words that make the process more comfortable, beautiful or convenient rather than just using Word, Notepad/Wordpad or the WordPress CMS. While there are many apps that let you create and edit plaintext files in the Windows Store, many of those said apps are perfunctory at worst, ad ridden and ugly at best.
Appy Text is a beautiful looking and minimalist Windows app from the developers of the popular Appy Weather that is available for Windows 10 PCs, tablets and phones.
It supports tabs, so you can work on multiple pieces at the same time without having to switch between documents unlike other Universal Windows apps including Microsoft’s own Word Mobile app. There’s also support for themes, so you can use a light theme, gray themes, a black theme and a sepia theme.
There aren’t formatting tools like there are in the Microsoft Word, and you won’t be able to attach anything to this as it literally just creates plain text files.
For people who need to work with the markdown formatting language, however (I don’t), Appy Text supports that too. There is also support for the usual array of keyboard shortcuts in Windows.
For me, I just needed a lightweight, distraction free writing app for Windows.
Preferably one that didn’t look horrible, and one that could work in plain text so as not to interfere with formatting tools. Appy Text fills that niche for me.
You can download the app from the store link below. It’s free but comes with a 0.79p IAP to unlock themes and tabs.
