Key notes
- iOS 18.3.1 will fix issues with Apple Intelligence notifications, which were disabled in iOS 18.3 due to inaccuracies.
- The update may address security flaws like CVE-2025-24085, which allows privilege escalation by malicious apps.
- iOS 18.3 also saw a re-release for iPhone 11, improving Apple Intelligence, the calculator app, and Siri-related issues.
It wasn’t too long ago when Apple shipped iOS 18.3. And now, the Cupertino tech giant will soon be launching iOS 18.3.1, a minor update that finally fixes this horrendous Apple Intelligence notification mistake.
Folks over at MacRumors spotted that Apple has been testing iOS 18.3.1 internally, and is expected to ship it soon to eligible iPhone users. According to the source’s analytic logs, this update may be patching issues with Apple Intelligence notification summaries, which were temporarily disabled in iOS 18.3 due to inaccuracies.
The feature, which combined notifications, emails, and messages into summaries, faced criticism for being confusing. The BBC pointed out a mistake where Apple Intelligence wrongly reported that Luigi Mangione, accused of murdering healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, had shot himself.
Since then, Apple had to temporarily pause the AI feature. Though, it’s still unsure whether it’ll ship the feature back in iOS 18.4, which will reach its beta period this month and full rollout to everyone by April.
iOS 18.3, which arrived last month, has turned Apple Intelligence on by default on eligible iPhones. Unlike in previous versions that would need you to opt-in, you have to manually opt out of Apple Intelligence after iOS 18.3 was shipped.
There are also several important security vulnerabilities that iOS 18.3.1 may be addressing, including the CVE-2025-24085 flaw in CoreMedia, which could let a malicious application elevate privileges.
Earlier this month, as 9to5Mac reported, Apple also re-released iOS 18.3 to older iPhone 11 models, which also improved Apple Intelligence, the calculator app, and Siri-related issues like disappearing keyboards.
