It was quite a year for Qualcomm, too.

Key notes
- IFI Claims Patent Services published its top 50 companies with the most patent applications last year.
- Apple sat on the 7th with 2,536 patents granted, slightly over its 2022 number.
- Microsoft, on the other hand, has “only” registered 1,820 patent grants
It’s been quite a year for Apple. The new Apple Vision Pro has just got its official release date in February, and for patents, well, the Cupertino-based company scored more than Microsoft and Google in 2023.
IFI CLAIMS Patent Services published its annual top 50 companies with the most patent applications in the US over the year between January and December 2023. Apple sat on the 7th with 2,536 patents granted, slightly over its 2022 number.
Microsoft, on the other hand, has “only” registered 1,820 patent grants and is the 14th. The database ranks Google just above the Redmond company, with 1,837 grants in 2023.
Ranking-wise, Samsung still tops the list with over 6,100 grants last year. The South Korean company was also ranked first in the 2022 database.
Qualcomm made the most move last year. The company made over 3,800 grants last year. That’s over 1,200 more and almost a 47% increase than last year’s figure.
But it’s a bit of a reach to call 2023 a dry spell for Microsoft patents. Plenty of interesting findings have been submitted, like Microsoft’s AI-powered smart backpack that can hear you and speak to you, among other things.
