Amazon is reportedly planning to add a new device category to its product portfolio. The e-commerce giant is all set to release new AirPods-like wireless earbuds that will be powered by its digital assistant Alexa.

The new pair of wireless earbuds will be capable of delivering great sounds, aside from that, the wireless pair will have support for gestures, meaning you’ll be able to manage phone calls just by a few taps. Also, it’ll be able to access music, weather, and various other information. The AirPods competitor can also place orders on Amazon which I think will be the main USP. Just say the keyword “Alexa.” to wake up Alexa, similar to what you do to wake up Alexa on your Echo devices.

A source close to Bloomberg claimed that Amazon’s wireless earbuds to be available in two colors –  Black, and Grey. Much like the AirPods, Amazon’s wireless pair will be packed into a case which will be capable of charging the earbuds.

Now due to the lack of cellular connectivity, the wireless pair will have to rely on Android and iOS smartphones for connectivity. The product is currently under development at Amazon’s Lab126 hardware division. However, you’re yet to hear anything concrete about the product from the horse’s mouth.
