Amazon announced earlier this year that it ould be bringing Spanish to its Alexa service in the US, and now the firm has begun the roll out of the service.
In a blog post today, Amazon stated the following:
Customers in the U.S. can now access Spanish language and Multi-lingual mode on supported Echo and Alexa Built-in Devices. And developers can now build skills, and devices with Alexa Built-in, for Spanish speaking customers across the country.
The experience includes a brand-new Spanish voice for Alexa, local knowledge, hundreds of skills, and more. Customers in the U.S. will be able to switch to “Español (Estados Unidos)” via the Alexa app, then ask in Spanish to play their favorite music, get the news and weather, control their smart home, set reminders, or enjoy skills from brands including Univision, Telemundo, and more.
There’s also a new Spanish multi-Lingual mode which allows users to switch between English and Spanish on the fly, with Alexa adapting to whatever input was last received.
The firm also announced the addition of several Latin music playlists to Alexa in the US. Users will be able to ask the digital assistant to play collections like ‘Puro Reggaeton’, ‘Tierra Tropical’ or ‘Sin Filtro’ among others by speaking the command in U.S Spanish.
Both features are available on the Amazon Echo, as well as Bose, Sonos, and Sony’s own Alexa powered devices.
