According to a report by Gartner, Microsoft has broken into the top five PC makers in the US for the first time PC by acquiring 4% of the market share. Lenovo, on the other hand, has topped the list by acquiring over 23% of the market share.

While Microsoft has managed to enter the top five PC makers in the US, thanks to the new Surface devices, the company still needs to work hand to maintain and move up the ladder. With Microsoft taking the fifth spot, Acer has now fallen from the top five PC makers list. Gartner also disclosed that the PC shipment has seen an increase of 0.1% in Q3 2018. IDC, on the other hand, says that there’s a 0.9% decline in shipments but that’s because of the fact that both companies have different criteria for calculating estimated shipments.

Microsoft has a lot of work to do if the company plans to retain its position in the top five. However, this certainly is a good news for the Surface devices as well as for the company. That said, Microsoft still isn’t anywhere near the top five PC makers worldwide which is something they really need to work on.
