Foldables are at its infancy and pretty much every major tech company is trying hard to bring them to the market. One of the major players that are trying to push the foldable technology is Samsung. The company’s first foldable phone recently went on for sale, but that’s not all! The Korean manufacturer seems to have many interesting devices in store for us.
Samsung Electronics filed a new patent, which was published by The Hague International Design System. Titled ‘Mobile telephone,’ the patent sheds light on three different types of foldable devices.
In the first model, the hinge is in the middle of the foldable device, making it appear a lot like a clamshell foldable device. This is different from Galaxy Fold — it’s no screen in the front, which makes it a lot like the Microsoft’s Surface Neo/Duo. When unfolded, the device looks exactly like a tablet. But since the patent is titled ‘Mobile Phone,’ it should have all the key features that you can find on a phone.
Interestingly enough, no camera hardware is visible in the patent, meaning that we might see an under-the-display-camera phone in this device. You’ll also be able to use it as a small laptop as you can use one half of the screen as a keyboard.
In the second model, the hinge is not in the middle, so one half of the screen is big, which is great for content viewing, and the other half is considerably smaller.
In the third model, the hinge has shifted even further, making it look more like an HP EliteDisplay S14 portable display.
However, since this is patent, we’re not sure whether or not they’ll ever be translated to a real product.
