Wim Coekaerts was Senior Vice President of Linux and Virtualization Engineering group at Oracle. He was responsible for Oracle’s complete desktop-to-data center virtualization product line and Oracle Linux. Wim Coekaerts has now joined Microsoft as the Corporate Vice President of Open Source in the Enterprise Cloud Group.

“As we continue to deepen our commitment to open source, Wim will focus on deepening our engagement, contributions and innovation to the open-source community,” said Mike Neil, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of the Enterprise Cloud.

In the recent years, Microsoft is already supporting open-source in a big way, Wim’s entry inside Microsoft should further push that forward.
