OpenAI o1 model picker on ChatGPT

OpenAI has made a lot of interesting announcements overnight. Now, the company behind ChatGPT brings an important update for ChatGPT Plus users who use the o3-mini-high model on the AI chatbot.

So for now, the company has raised the o3-mini-high limits to up to 50 per day. That’s 7 times more than the usual for paid Plus subscribers.

The o3-mini model, which arrived back in December, is a highly cost-efficient, powerful model optimized for STEM tasks such as science, math, and coding.

The o3 model scored 75.7% on ARC-AGI and 82.0 on MMLU (5-shot), while the o3-mini is faster and cost-efficient for STEM tasks. But, the o3-mini is faster and cheaper compared to the original reasoning-excelling o3 model.

The model gives you improved speed and performance compared to its predecessor, o1-mini, particularly in complex problem-solving. It also supports key developer features, including function calling and structured outputs, and is available for use in APIs and through ChatGPT.

You can adjust the model for different reasoning efforts (low, medium, high) to balance speed and accuracy. It’s especially strong in areas requiring precision and speed, and it is now available for both free and paid users with rate limits and faster response times.

In ChatGPT-related news, OpenAI also now allows file and image uploads in ChatGPT with the o1 and o3-mini models, but the rollout is uneven globally.

“In both ChatGPT and our API, we will release GPT-5 as a system that integrates a lot of our technology, including o3. We will no longer ship o3 as a standalone model,” OpenAI boss Sam Altman updates.
