No Man’s Sky, the game steeped in infamy after its disastrous launch, is thankfully doing far better nowadays. It’s also set to receive a massive update that adds several features to the game, including online multiplayer.

The update is due in summer 2019 and is simply titled ‘Beyond’.

Beyond comes in the wake of the update known as Next, which was released last summer. Next introduced multiplayer in the form of playing with a small group of friends. Beyond plans to expand on that and introduce No Man’s Sky Online.

No Man’s Sky Online plans on bringing players together from across the universe to play and explore together. The team don’t consider it to be an MMO, however. No subscription will be required, there will be no microtransactions, and Beyond will be free for all existing players.

The update comes from the team at Hello Games realising that they could deliver a ‘much more exciting and impactful experience’ if they chose to weave major features together instead of releasing them one by one. They also say that it’s their ‘most ambitious chapter’ so far and they’ve been working hard to do the game and the community justice.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see if No Man’s Sky can really go to infinity and beyond.
