The developers of medieval multiplayer game Mordhau proposed plans that would allow players to hide people of colour and women from their games but has now denied plans to do so.
In an article on PC Gamer that investigated the game’s slew of racist and homophobic toxicity, developers Mike Desrosiers and Andrew Geach explained that they were thinking of adding toggles so that bigotted members of their community would be able to disable women and people of colour from the game.
With the game planning to expand above the strictly white male playable characters, the developers also proposed plans to keep games strictly white male populated.
“So current thoughts on that, as Mike said… giving the option for players to disable it?” said Geach.
“It’s not set in stone, it depends [on] how our community is in the future. Maybe if it calms down in the future, the game still has a lot of players, a lot of toxicity, a lot of racism, a lot of politics, everything, people argue in chat about all sorts of nonsense.”
After PC Gamer’s article was released, the developers immediately took to Twitter in order to explain the situation. They simply denied the studio’s plans to toggle off character types that some players deemed “too unrealistic”.
“We do not, nor have we ever, had plans to add a toggle to hide other ethnicities or “disable characters that aren’t white” in Mordhau,” the developers said. “Any claims to the contrary are false. Official statement coming soon.”

As it stands, MORDHAU still suffers from rampant racism within its community. With no chat filters available for those who wish to not be immediately offended with racist and homophobic slurs, MORDHAU is a bigot’s playground and there are no plans to remedy that.
