A few months ago,Microsoft announcedthe company will be rolling out Windows 10 Mobile to select Windows Phone 8.1 devices this month. However, today, the company announced the OS will be rolling out to Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows Phone 8 devices in early 2016. A Microsoft spokesperson stated:
“This November we introduced Windows 10 to phones including brand new features such as Continuum and Universal Windows Apps with the introduction of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL. The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will begin rolling out early next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones.”
It is worth noting that Windows 10 Mobile may not be available to all Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 phones in 2016 straight away as the rollout depends on your region and carrier. For those wondering, the following devices are expected to get Windows 10 Mobile in 2016:Â Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 635 (1 GB RAM), Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830, and Lumia 930 — according to Microsoft.Â
Of course, Windows 10 Mobile has been released already as Microsoft is delivering the OS with the new Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 550. Microsoft also delivered the first update for these devices directly by bypassing carriers which is, indeed, very good news. Hopefully, Microsoft will be bypassing carrier blocks for Windows 10 Mobile updates on other devices once it’s available. Until then, tell us if you are excited about Windows 10 Mobile in the comment section below.
