Microsoft is currently testing a new feature in the Edge browser that makes it easier for you to multitask by opening multiple Picture-in-Picture (PiP) windows all at once.
Dubbed “Live Capture,” this experimental option—available in the Edge Canary build—lets you open multiple PiP windows simultaneously. According to reports from browser enthusiast @Leopeva64, while the feature shows significant promise, its final implementation is not yet confirmed.
Early tests, including those on YouTube, show that videos continue playing in the PiP windows, although playback control is limited to Global Media Controls rather than direct window manipulation.
You can resize, open, or close these windows, but scrolling within them isn’t yet supported.
But with the feature being rolled out in Edge Canary, the browser’s experimental channel, you may want to take this with a grain of salt. There’s no guarantee that Microsoft will ship Live Capture to Edge Stable, or even so, the feature may still be tweaked based on the testing & feedback.
Still from Edge-related news, Microsoft has also been testing a machine learning-powered autofill feature in Edge on Android that predicts and fills forms. Previously introduced on desktop, Edge also added a “Share” button to Copilot’s pane for sharing AI chats.
Microsoft has also been aggressively promoting Edge over Chrome by showing pop-ups in Bing search results that encourage using Edge extensions. Clicking “Try Now” redirects users to the Edge Add-ons Store.
