Elon Musk’s xAI has launched Grok 3, a new AI model claimed to outperform both its predecessor and competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and China’s DeepSeek.
Musk has previously hyped the model as “scary smart,” and its benchmark scores tell the same story: Grok 3 outperforms o1 and DeepSeek-R1 in reasoning when given more test-time computing.
During its demonstration during a live stream on X, Musk highlighted that Grok 3 is a significant upgrade, capable of solving complex tasks in math, science, and coding, and praised its rapid development.
So how can you try Grok 3, then?
Well, to try Grok 3, you can access it through the X platform by logging into your X account. Grok 3 is available to X Premium subscribers, though it has also been made available for free to all users with a limit of 10 messages every two hours.
Once logged in, you can interact with Grok 3 by clicking on the Grok icon within the platform to start using its advanced reasoning capabilities for tasks like answering questions or generating content.
Other than that, xAI also introduced “Deep Search,” a next-gen search engine. The model has been trained on a massive supercomputer using a large cluster of advanced Nvidia GPUs.
The news arrived amid OpenAI’s recent push for its upcoming model, GPT-4.5, which the company’s CEO Sam Altman hyped as the closest thing we have to artificial general intelligence (AGI).
Both GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 models are coming in a matter of “weeks or months,” and once they do, OpenAI will eliminate ChatGPT’s model picker to give everyone a one-stop simple AI experience.
