HERE Maps services can already be found in more than 100 million vehicles globally. At CES 2019, HERE today announced the world’s first ‘Navigation as a Service’ solution named “HERE Navigation On-Demand”. Using this solution, any car maker can easily build an in-car navigation and infotainment system for their vehicles. Consumers will also be able to enjoy accurate mapping info and over-the-air updates without visiting nearby dealerships.
HERE today also announced Alexa will be pre-integrated into its navigation services. This integration will enable voice-commanded experience for consumers both inside and outside the car. For example, you can ask Alexa to set a reminder to pick up bread at the grocery store after work. At the end of your working day, the in-vehicle navigation system finds the optimal route to the store based on real-time traffic information, and provides a friendly voice reminder to pick up bread as you approach your local store. In future, Alexa will be able to answer questions in an environment-aware context. Take a look at the example below.
When you ask, “Alexa, where do I turn?” Alexa could respond with, “turn directly after the supermarket.”
In addition to HERE benefitting from Alexa, Alexa will also get more powerful with the help of HERE. Alexa will allow people to search and locate points of interest, access live traffic information, and conduct seamless route planning both inside and outside the car.
