The recent Windows 11 KB5050092 preview update has been causing some technical issues for users with dual-mode printers that connect via USB. These printers, which support both USB Print and Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) over USB, have been producing unexpected outputs, such as random text and data, often starting with the header “POST /ipp/print HTTP/1.1” followed by other IPP-related headers.
The root of the problem lies in the print spooler mistakenly sending IPP protocol messages to the printer, resulting in the unintended printing of characters and commands. This issue occurs more frequently when the printer is powered on or reconnected after being disconnected.
To address this, Microsoft has implemented a Known Issue Rollback (KIR) to help mitigate the problem. IT administrators can also deploy the KIR using a special Group Policy. A permanent resolution is being developed and will be included in a future Windows update.
Users experiencing these printing issues are advised to apply the KIR or consult with their IT departments for assistance. Monitoring Microsoft’s official channels for updates on this matter is also recommended, as the company continues to work on a long-term solution. You can also find out more about this issue on the Windows forum.
