As its exclusivity deal expires like Eurydice did after Orpheus looked back, Hades is finally available on Steam.

Time flies when you’re trying to hack and slash your way out of the Underworld and it’s been an entire year since Hades launched on the Epic Games Store. That means that its exclusivity deal is up, and the game is free to appear on other desktop platforms.

Hades is a god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler from Supergiant Games, the brains behind other games including Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre. It’s still in Early Access with the devs predicting a v1.0 launch sometime in late 2020.

In Hades, you play as Zagreus, the immortal prince of the Underworld. Zagreus is trying his best to break free from the clutches of his father, Hades, while growing stronger and discovering more about the world around him with each escape attempt.

As an immortal, Zagreus only finds himself back at the start whenever an escape attempt fails. You can upgrade Zagreus’ talents and skills in order to make the next escape attempt absolutely-most-definitely the one where you succeed.

The game also features a vast wealth of characters from Greek mythology, including well known gods such as Zeus, Athena, and Poseidon and lesser known deities such as Alecto and Tisiphone.

Other characters, such as Achilles, Patroclus, and Cerberus also appear – and yes, you can pet the dog.

Hades is currently 20% off on Steam, going for just $19.99/£15.59 instead of $24.99/£19.49, and will continue to be discounted until December 17th. All purchases of Hades include one free gift copy of Pyre until January 2nd, 2019.
