We have seen a number of camera comparisons in the past but they are mostly flawed by subjectively comparing the pictures to each other, rather than to a neutral gold standard.
TechCloud have uploaded the video above comparing the Nokia Lumia 1520 to the Sony Xperia Z1, both 20 megapixel handsets, by comparing pictures from both handsets to the 20 megapixel Canon EOS 6D, a £999 camera which is well recognized for taking excellent pictures.
TechCloud found the Nokia Lumia 1520 takes sharper images than Sony Xperia Z1 with more details, especially indoors and in low light. Even in daylight the Xperia Z1 overexposes produced pictures with poor contrast.
Importantly colour reproduction on the Lumia 1520 is closer to the Canon 6D compared to the Xperia Z1.
When taking video the Nokia Lumia 1520 took better video in the day light, but was let down by noisy, dark video at night, while the Xperia Z1 was a lot brighter and accurate at night.
