Google play store

Google rolled out dark mode to the Android 10’s Play Store app earlier this month, and now the firm is doing the same for devices running the much more popular Android 9 Pie.

While users will need to turn on dark mode on Android 10 to enable it the same basic functionality is present on Android 9 to some extent.  Not all devices have a dark theme toggle, but if yours does and it plays with the right APIs, you’ll be able to activate the dark theme on the Play Store just as easily as you were running an Android 10 device.

Samsung’s OneUI works well with this, as do Huawei flagships which are equipped with OLED displays.

Ideally, Google should have introduced a dark theme toggle in-app to make it more convenient for users, but we can’t all have nice things.
