Qualcomm will continue to supply Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF Systems for Apple iPhones until 2026

Qualcomm has announced that it will continue to supply Apple with Snapdragon 5G Modem?RF Systems for iPhones that will be launched in 2024, 2025 and 2026. Apple had acquired Intel’s modem technology and its team a few years ago to replace Qualcomm modems in iPhones. However, this new deal with Qualcomm indicates that Apple’s 5G modem development is facing some challenges. A recent report by Bloomberg claimed that Apple will start using its own modem in some of its devices from next year and will try to phase out Qualcomm completely by 2027.

This agreement reinforces Qualcomm’s track record of sustained leadership across 5G technologies and products.

Qualcomm mentioned that the terms and conditions are similar to the previous agreement. And Qualcomm expects 20 percent share of chipset supply for the smartphone launch in 2026. The global patent license agreement, effective as of April 2019, remains unchanged. Direct license between Apple and Qualcomm Incorporated: six-year term, with two-year option to extend.
