Microsoft is celebrating their 50th anniversary this week on Friday, April 4, 2025. Reminiscing memories from the past, Bill talks about the first code he and his old school buddy Paul Allen wrote back in 1975.

He goes on to tell the story of how they called the manufacturer of the Altair 8800 minicomputer and told him that he had the software for their computer. However, they had not written it yet. Then, to deliver on his earlier promise, he and Paul worked on the code for two months tirelessly and finally completed the code in BASIC language. This code went on to become the foundation for the Altair 800’s first operating system. Bill also encouraged interested members to check out the code, which you can find here.

Though to us, the first code would not look very appealing, but according to Gates, this is his coolest work yet. This laid out the foundation for Microsoft and the personal computer industry. As Gates is turning 70, nostalgia is hitting him hard. he even talked about how he stepped down from the post of CEO in 2000. He also talks about his relation with the late Steve Jobs and his company Apple, and how they will be celebrating their 50th anniversary next year. Gates also expresses his amazement at their dream finally coming to life.
