Microsoft Mobile has been boasting about the superior sound recording capabilities of the Nokia Lumia 930, and have recruited Scottish pop band Pride to demo the technology.

The handset features 4 omni-directional microphones–two on the front of the Lumia 930 and two on the back, which lets you record true, high-quality three-dimensional sound in your videos.

The so-called binaural recording, which allows for interaural differences (the difference between sound arriving at the left ear and right ear) lets users more accurately reproduce sound, and makes for a specutacular recording when paired with the handset’s 20 megapixel camera with OIS and loss-less zoom.

Binaural has real potential when it comes to mobile phones,” said Tony Churnside, a digital creative director and sound engineer who previously worked at the BBC. “A technological leap forward will soon happen as more and more phones start rendering personalized binaural in real time.

“In the future, the listener’s own personal head shape and even their head movements will be taken into account to create immersive binaural experiences.”
