According to the BBC, Microsoft are investigating the rumoured “phantom data” issue that has WP7 devices using up unnecessary amounts of data.

The bug – whose existence has been widely claimed, if not widely verified – has been reported to be using tens of megabytes per day over 3g, even when connected to wifi networks.

“We are investigating this issue to determine the root cause and will update with information and guidance as it becomes available,” said a Microsoft spokesperson.

It’s good to hear that Microsoft are aware of this issue, though as a press release this says almost nothing.
