Microsoft’s Lumia is a whole different beast from Nokia’s Lumia, and after a series of shut downs and closings,it is pretty clear that there is almost nothing left of the latter.
Coming shortly after the loss of Here and Mixradio, Microsoft’s Lumia Voices team – formerly known as Nokia Connects – is now being rolled up
In an email sent out to Lumia Voices contributors, the firm stated;
“We are writing to tell you that the Lumia Voices programme will close on April 12th 2016. After a truly amazing few years, it’s now time for our wonderful community to embrace the benefits of being part of the wider Microsoft family.”
…
Most importantly, we want to take this opportunity to thank you for your hard work throughout the years. You’ve been an inspiration and your contribution to the programme enabled Lumia Voices to thrive and impact people’s lives in a very positive way. You truly are the backbone of this community and we really appreciate your dedication and loyalty during the time we’ve worked together.
It’s not entirely clear at first glance what embrace the benefits of the Microsoft family mean, but we assume that since Microsoft has the Windows Insider community as its fan focused base, it makes sense for the smaller Lumia voices community to fade away.
However, we do note that Microsoft’s Lumia Voices team was a small but passionate team on social media which built up a community around the Lumia line, and the cancellation of the program without an immediate replacement is yet another blow to the Windows phone community.
