Dell has significantly updated their XPS 13 laptop with improved screen, thinner bezels and the latest hardware.

The build quality of XPS 13 remains the same with machined aluminum in platinum silver with black carbon fiber palm rest plus the new frost or rose gold exteriors with a brightened arctic white woven glass fiber palm rest. The XPS 13 is powered by the latest Quad Core 8th Gen Intel processors, up to 16GB RAM and up to 2TB SSD.

The updated XPS 13 also features the next generation InfinityEdge 4K display with Dolby Vision for great visual experience. It has 4mm side borders that are 23% thinner than the original XPS 13. The screen also has a 0.65% anti-reflective coating to reduce the glare. With 400-nit brightness and wide 178-degree viewing, the display looks great from any angle.

Another first in the laptop is its GORE Thermal Insulation that offers thermal conductivity levels lower than air in a thin, flexible format. This new thermal solution allows XPS 13 to offer high performance without getting hot. Dell claims that the full HD model will offer 21 hours of battery life. I found only one downside in the new model, there’s no USB Type-A port. But you have got two Thunderbolt 3 ports, one UBC-C and a USB Type-A to Type-C adapter.

The new XPS 13 starts at $899 and will be available as per the below schedule:

  • January 8, 2019: UHD Touch in Silver/Black; UHD Touch in Rose Gold/White
  • Late January 2019: UHD Touch in Frost/White; FHD Non-Touch in Silver/Black, Rose Gold/White and Frost/White After January 2019: FHD Touch in Silver/Black

The laptop can now be pre-ordered from the Microsoft Store, with shipments starting on the 18th.
