Microsoft is now shutting down the services of the Remote Desktop app on across all platforms. Instead, a new Windows app has now been officially launched on Android. The new Windows App has a fresh look and improvements in UI and UX. It also introduces the passkey support feature for authentication. As the Remote Desktop app will no longer be supported on any platforms after May 27, 2025, the Windows App will now be taking its place. The app is now available on macOS, iOS, web, and Android and can also be downloaded on Windows.
According to Microsoft, the Windows App has already logged over 425 million hours of usage across all platforms. While the new app has been praised for its functionality, some users have expressed concerns about its name, finding “Windows App” less intuitive than “Remote Desktop App.”
Other than the roll out of the Windows App, Microsoft also announced the new Windows 365 Link, a Cloud PC for the frontline workers. You can read more about the gadget here.
