Demonstrating at least that there is a community of enthusiasts around Windows 8 Metro and Windows Phone, VideoLan’s VLC KickStarter fundraiser, which aimed to raise £40,000 in 30 days, has passed its goal with 5 days to spare.
The VLC team writes:

A few minutes ago, we passed our goal of £40,000 because of you! Thanks so much for the support from more than 2,500 backers like you!
Right now, we are working on another update to lay out our additional ideas. We are enthusiastically looking forward to work on this project and providing the best VLC possible for you.

Hopefully the enthusiasm of the community will also infect the VLC developers, who have targeted an April delivery of the software for Windows 8 Metro, to be followed by Windows RT and eventually Windows Phone.
