Noi am avut un recent report in USA which indicated the introduction of Windows Phone 7 did not do much for Microsoft mobile OS sales. It seems the situation is very different in Europe, with IDC reporting that Windows Phone sales increased 100% from Q3 to Q4 2010.
Sales also increased 18% YoY, while the whole European mobile phone market only increasing 3.2% YoY.
IDC reports that growth was limited by the OS not being available in all European languages, but despite this the operating system received positive feedback from operators and end-users.
Of course even in Europe Android and iPhone were king of the hill, but it is heartening to see a positive response to the OS on the continent, despite the limited number of services Microsoft makes available there.
Disentangling the numbers from the IDC report, the results for Europe in Q4 2010 per OS is as follows:
Q4 2010 | |
Android | 7.9 |
RIM | 3.8 |
Apple | 5.2 |
Symbian | 7.0 |
Other, including Windows Phone | 1.7 |
Total | 25.6 |
