YouTube Music adds trending charts to its playlist catalogue

Google’s YouTube Music is gaining support for YouTube’s music charts support today, as the firm is implementing support for this as playlists.

Now, users of YouTube’s Music app will be able to find both global and local playlists featuring the top 100 trending songs as determined by YouTube Charts.

YouTube Charts takes in data from its 1.8 billion users and are based on the number of views an artist or song receives. The algorithm updates several times in the day to ensure that all the charts are up to date and current.

This isn’t a new feature, Spotify has had support for top charts for years and Apple just added this in its Apple Music app. In general, Charts is is a feature that makes it easier to play generally inoffensive music for parties.
