Xiaomi’s Android phones feature a Windows Phone-like “Lite Mode”

Windows Phone was designed to be easy to use, and it seems Microsoft must have done something right, as another up and coming smartphone OEM has just ripped off their Start Menu design.

Popular Chinese OEM Xiaomi has introduced a Lite Mode designed to hide the complexity and confusion of Android behind a Windows Phone-like Start screen that offers a “simplified Home screen and menus”.

With smartphones rapidly replacing feature phones there is obviously a role for an OS optimised for those who are not bothered with apps and managing their phone and who simply want to use Whatsapp and Facebook and get on with their lives.

Microsoft needs to make sure they get to these consumers, who already adopt Windows Phone in preference to other operating systems, first before companies like Xiaomi poach them with Microsoft’s own stolen UI.
