Xbox Smartglass “Play To” app coming to Windows Phone, other platforms

In the run up to E3 some interesting news has leaked from the Xbox camp.

Revealed in a presentation to the media, Xbox Smartglass will be a cross-platform smartphone and tablet app which will allow users to “control their Xbox (e.g., transport controls, content discovery and search)” and have the ability to play video on Tablets/Phones and send the videos to Xbox to play on the TV.

The Smartglass app will also feature Activities which will be tied to existing and new applications on Xbox (e.g., Zune Music will have an activity).

Apparently the app will be optimized for Windows Tablets and Phones but also made available to iOS/Android Tablets and Phones.

The app will help Microsoft maintain its position as the premier living room computing device, and bring DLNA –type functionality to most Windows Phones to a receiver many already have connected to their TV.
