Xbox Music, Microsoft’s music streaming service could be the company’s another tough choice. The music streaming service could be rebranded sometime soon to “Groove”.
Keep in mind that it isn’t 100% confirmed that Microsoft is indeed dropping the Xbox branding. However, there’s a good chance. How so? Well, just open up the Phone Companion app in the latest version of Windows 10, and navigate to the Windows Phone’s section’s Music option of the app and you’ll see that the app states “Groove Music Pass” – suggesting that Microsoft could be rebranding Xbox Music as Groove Music.
It’s worth mentioning that I don’t’ see any mention of Groove Music Pass on my Phone Companion app on Build 10162. I’m not entirely sure if this is just a placeholder or if Microsoft is indeed rebranding the service.
This will indeed be a very interesting move by the software giant. Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella recently stated that the company has “tough choices” in an email to its staff. The company has already made some tough choices, one of which includes Bing Map’s assets sell out. It is worth noting that the company could be acquiring the Groove music player app, which is available on the Windows Store.
It’s also worth noting that when you search for “Groove” on the Windows Store, the Music app on Windows 10 shows up. Microsoft could also be selling the Xbox Music brand to Groove as well. However, for now, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens next. Until then, discuss if Microsoft should drop the Xbox Music branding in the comment section below!
