Users who receive the Windows Phone 8.1 update will notice a new pop-up when they connect their handset to their PC for the first time.
The update asks whether they just want to connect in charging mode, or whether they want to synchronize also.
The feature is designed to prevent unintentional sharing of data when all you want is a bit of juice from a computer. It also prevents a form of hacking which has been detected in the wild, where public charging stations would actually be used to steal data and install exploits on handsets.
The move, like many others on Windows Phone 8.1, should help keep Windows Phone users even safer, especially compared to Android, where more than 97% of malware is aimed at.
Thanks Jithin for the tip.
